APPROACH

Since 1970 the Food & Fertilizer Technology Center (FFTC) has been working in the Asia-Pacific region to improve the knowledge of farmers, agricultural workers and academics. Through their extension work they have created literally thousands of pages of information, in English and other languages, an incredibly rich resource for agriculturalists worldwide.

Realizing the value of their archive, FFTC came to Pristine with the idea of developing an online database, to simplify and extend the delivery of their services.

With little 'hands-on' web experience, FFTC were keen to find a longterm solution that could grow with their work, including the delivery of multilingual content.

FFTC's target audience, agricultural extension workers involved in sustainable development throughout the Asia-Pacific region, have varying levels of computer skills and access to the Internet. Web interfaces were designed for the greatest range of browsers, computing power, Internet connectivity, and language use possible. In consideration of the expense and limited availability of Internet access for some target users, abstracts and printable PDFs were created.

The site also features discussion areas for invited guests, where specific issues from conferences or papers can be examined.

FFTC's site has been developed in two stages and continues to be an exciting project to bring the agricultural world online:
